Companies House have introduced new rules to help deter the misuse of UK companies. All new and existing directors, company secretaries and people with significant control (PSC) of a company will have to verify their identity with Companies House, under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

This will be mandatory from 18th November 2025 for new directors and PSC’s, while existing directors and PSC’s will be expected to comply from the date of their next confirmation statement deadline.

There are three places that you can verify your identity:

1. Directly with Companies House.

2. In person at a Post Office.

3. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), such as Mitchells.

You’ll verify your identity using documents such as your passport, driving licence, utility bills and bank statements.

If you're a current or prospective director or PSC, it's best to verify your identity now, while the voluntary window is open. That ensures you're ready for the transition into mandatory status and will avoid possible fines or filing rejections in Autumn 2025-26.

If you would like help to complete the process, please get in touch with our team. We would encourage verification as soon as possible to ensure that you stay up to date with the regulations.
